Bike SharingHow Happy Does Your Commute Make You?Did you know that bike commuters are happy commuters? One study found that bicyclists are happiest of all commuters, as compared to drivers, public transit users and walkers. Maybe it's because cyclists are saving money with reduced parking and transit fees, gas use and car maintenance. Or maybe it’s the environmental impact - riding a bike instead of driving has profound potential to reduce air pollution, including greenhouse gas emissions. Coming Soon to Boston…Either way, the good news is that you don’t have to own a bike to bike. One of the first bicycle share programs in the United States, Hubway, will open over 60 stations in Boston with 600 bicycles available for use. Annual membership for the program is priced at $85, or bikes can be rented for $5 per day with free use to bicyclists who are travelling less than 30 minutes. Talks are already underway to expand the program to Cambridge, Somerville and Brookline in 2012. Facilities Available at the CenterThe NonProfit Center encourages bike commuting by offering plenty of secure bike parking and showers. Also know that depending on your starting point, many routes to the center can be completed off-road or in dedicated and shared bike lanes. Consider biking when you next visit the center and be sure to have a great ride. More Information
