Date: Wednesday, November 30, 2011
Time: 9:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
Location: NonProfit Center

Sponsored by: Progressive Communicators Network and Third Sector New England

In the era of increasing disparities and the specter of another economic recession, how can social justice advocates and communicators effectively communicate hope and optimism in the face of these challenges? How can we echo the theme from the last U. S. Social Forum, “Another World is Possible and Another U.S. is Necessary”?

This year's workshops:

  • Media Advocacy 101
  • New Tools for Communicating Hope
  • Media Literacy: How Can It Work for You?
  • Framing for Change
  • #OccupyMedia
  • Creative Action for Moving Your Message

Over the past 12 months, we’ve seen an inspiring uprising of community voices, often led by young people. From the Arab Spring protests to the Occupy Wall Street and Take Back the City campaigns, they are using creative communications techniques to protest existing entrenched policies and their supporting systemic structures .

The opening panel will help lead a discussion of recent successes in communicating hope and visioning justice. Throughout the conference, we’ll have opportunities to explore case studies, best practices, future challenges and effective ways for communicating and sustaining our hope, vision and movement for social justice into the future.
